Otani Japanese Steak House. 1532
Laskin Rd. 757-425-0404. Food-4; Service-3; Atmosphere-3.
Appetizers average $6; dinner entrees and specials are $11-$33, averaging
$20; a full sushi and sashimi menu. Also a large bar with an
extensive cocktail list that describes the ingredients for each drink and
includes the huge Flaming Volcano. (The souvenir bowl is $20.) A fun
dining experience as the chef puts on a show with “food and fire tricks”
while cooking the meals at your U-shaped table which you may share with
other unsuspecting diners. Plenty of food comes with the meal,
but there are several side items including steak and shellfish if you want
more. Very warm in there as you’re actually sitting next to the “stove”.
Reservations recommended. Kiddie menu. Large parking lot.
Lunch and dinner. August 03

Felito's Oriental Restaurant. 1943 Lynnhaen Pkwy.
471-8900. Food-4. Service 0. Atmosphere-1.
I
normally enjoy sampling foods from many different cultures, whether it be at
the beach or in the boonies. This restaurant was previously called Mary's
Oriental Restaurant a year or two ago. When I arrived at the restaurant a
week ago, now called Felito's, it seemed as if the new management or
employees had no knowledge or understanding of customer service. I waited,
even though there was no line, for the servers to finish chatting with each
other, then, after I was served, I went up to pay, and the charge was
$4.97....The old guy, who I believe was the new manager, had the look of
some kind of “wannabe oldschool gangsta”, with gold chains, half unbuttoned
shirt and sunglasses and a rediculous getup. He told me that since I was
paying with a credit debit card, I was going to have to buy an additional
item since the minimum purchase was $5.00. Don't get me wrong, they have
awesome food if you want to try something different, but they are greedy and
have really crappy customer service. (I will never patronize there again,
nor will any of my friends or family.) There are better stores up and down
Lynnhaven for the curious. By the way, according to the business contracts
for Visa and Mastercard, minimum amounts are not allowed to be set by the
retailer, anytime, anywhere. February 09
